Big Sur Sea Explosion

The Blissful Adventurer - Big Sur
Sea Explosion

Big Sur Sea Explosion is the first image in my series of shots from a long weekend of exploration along the Pacific Coast from Monterey down to Big Sur. This wave caught along the drive through Point Lobos was over 15 feet in height when it crashed against this rock. The spray from the wave actually misted down upon me and the camera some 50+ feet from the image.

While the weather was not idea through the entire weekend I did manage to capture some strong images including this one which may be the best surf shot I have ever taken. This image was shot RAW on my Nikon D7000 using my 18-205 Nikkor Zoom lens. I processed the image on Snapseed and Lightroom. I urge you to click to see the image here full-size.

Happy Thursday Blissful Adventurers and welcome to Big Sur.

  1. THIS is an amazing photo! I’m constantly fascinated with the sea spray and explosion, can watch it for hours and hours…. Big Sur is to me one of those places that lives within you once you’ve been there. I like your blissful adventure… “not all who wanders are lost” (from Lord of the Rings ;)

    • No, in fact I would say that most people who never wander are the ones who are lost. Thank you for this very kind comment :-)

    • I think you could be very right, reminds me of the question, “so have you settled down yet?” What, haven’t heard of it, something to be recommended? lol Home is within, and so is “being settled” lol Enjoy your adventure, the small and the bog ones, the outer and inner… thanks for replying.

  2. Beautiful image, Michael. I’m glad that you’ve recommended viewing this at full size. That is, in fact, the only way it should be viewed.

    • thank you! Any DSLR image I post I leave access to the larger image as the embedded size usually does them no justice. Now with the higher resolution iPhone pics I leave them for that as well. How are things on your blog and in your world?

  3. A real work of art. I’m sure it will be a great workshop.

  4. This is a gorgeous photo.. stunning! I hope you enlarge it and frame it somewhere in your home. If I could.. I’d be at that workshop!! I’m just taking a Photoshop course as we speak.. so I’m learning tons of cool stuff! xx

  5. Fantastic image, inspiring.

  6. Wow that is a great shot. It almost looks more like a painting!

  7. I like the new look of your blog! Will be looking for your book out in the fall – congratulations!
